Si te perdiste la exposición de Dalí o te quedaste con ganas de más, estás de suerte. Esta vez es el Museo Thyssen el que nos trae una recopilación de pinturas, dibujos, collages, esculturas y fotografías de artistas como André Breton, Salvador Dalí, Paul Delvaux, Yves Tanguy, Renée Magritte, André Masson, Max Ernst, Jean Arp, Claude Cahun y Paul Nougé, entre otros. Y es que el Surrealismo no fue un movimiento artístico más, sino una actitud ante la vida que ha dejado una marcada huella en todo el arte de hoy en día. Esta exposición mostrará cómo esa transformación de la sensibilidad contemporánea, tiene su raíz más profunda en la vinculación surrealista entre sueño e imagen, basándose en la escritura automática, como una de las vías fundamentales de la liberación de la psique. Aunque los planteamientos de Sigmund Freud, y en particular su gran obra La interpretación de los sueños (1.900), resulten decisivos para sus aproximaciones al mundo onírico, no se limitaron a ser meros seguidores de Freud. Para los artistas del surrealismo, el sueño era un plano de experiencia diferente al de la vida consciente, cuyo conocimiento incidía de modo especial en el enriquecimiento y ampliación del psiquismo.

Exhibition Surrealism and the Dream

For those who missed the Dalí exhibition, there is another (similar) chance, but this time at the Thyssen Museum. From the 8th of October 2013 to the 12th of January 2014, the exhibition Surrealism and the Dream, has collected paintings, drawings, collages, sculptures and photographs by artists such as André Breton, Salvador Dalí, Paul Delvaux, Yves Tanguy, René Magritte, André Masson, Max Ernst, Jean Arp, Claude Cahun and Paul Nougé. This exhibition will reveal how this transformation of modern sensibility had its roots in the profound connection between dream and image in Surrealism From the outset, the Surrealists championed the dream together with automatic writing, seeing them as fundamental routes towards the liberation of the psyche. While Freud’s thinking, in particular his great work The Interpretation of Dreams (1.900), was crucial for the Surrealists’ own approach to the world of dreams, they were more than mere followers of his ideas. For them, the dream was a field of experience different to that of conscious life, and knowledge of it was essential for the enrichment and expansion of the psyche.
